As a high school student, Rachael Bevill traveled an hour each way on Sundays during the summer to attend classes at MIT HSSP. At the time, Rachael's rural high school was cutting back Advanced Placement classes, leaving Rachael underchallenged in the classroom.
However, she met her intellectual peers at HSSP. "The people who were there wanted to be there. It didn't matter that classes were held at 10:00 AM on a Sunday."
An introductory engineering class that Rachael took at HSSP inspired her to apply to college for biomedical engineering. She decided to attend George Washington University on the strengths of its academic programs and the engineering scholarships they awarded her.
"If I hadn’t attended HSSP, I wouldn’t have applied to a biomedical engineering program," Rachael said.
Rachael intends to start an enrichment program similar to the ones she attended at MIT. She'll be able to take advantage of LU's mentoring, website support, and open-source software. You can help LU assist her through a donation.
